The original parish church for Exmouth, the first
building on the site dates back to the 13th century, of which the Chancel
still remains.
The Nave and Tower were added in the 15th century.
The Drake family home was at Prattshayes, Maer Lane, and they paid for the North
Aisle, known as Drakes Aisle, to be added in the 16th century.
Lady Nelson is buried in the churchyard, and there is a memorial to her on
the East wall of the Chantry.
The Lectern, circa 1250, is carved from an old oak beam from the choir
of Salisbury cathedral.

The church was re-ordered in 1998, the font being moved to the front of the nave,
a glass screen added between the nave and the ringing chamber, new heating and
lighting installed, and the various floor levels adjusted,
allowing disabled access via the South porch.
